I'm Jim Dooley. I spend my days recording drum tracks that musicians use in their own music, and teaching drums.
I cover a lot of ground, but keep it balanced: technique matters, but the reward comes from making it yours. I give guidance and room to explore—you build your own style, and you feel it when you play with other people.
Lessons happen in my home studio in Eddyville, NY. Two full kits, ready to go—you're behind a real kit from day one.
I can also help with gear. I've built snare drums and an electronic drum kit from scratch—I can help you find the right setup without overspending.
So let's play. Songs I've picked to build specific skills, or bring your own.
Understand notation so you can learn any song and communicate with other musicians.
Apply classic rudiments creatively across the whole drum kit, not just the snare.
Maximize speed and power efficiently. Play longer, hit harder, stay relaxed.
Exercises for the full kit including double kick to develop speed and independence.
Go beyond basic rock beats. Learn to groove in 7/8, 5/4, and more.
